چکیده

A promising method of particle self-assembly using patterned surfaces is described. A set of long order of millimeters , nanoscale-width grooves is etched into a substrate, and an aqueous solution containing particles of 50or 80-nm diameter is deposited on the surface. Upon the evaporation of the solution, the particles are dragged into the grooves by the receding contact line. A partial differential equation, incorporating screening, is constructed to investigate the final distribution of particles in the grooves. A complete analysis of the stationary states for the density equation in one and two dimensions is performed. Additionally, the nonlinear evolution of the density is studied numerically and the results compare well with both the analytic results and the experiments. © 2005 American Institute of Physics. Ultrasound directed self-assembly of user-specified patterns of nanoparticles dispersed in a fluid medium

We employ an ultrasound wave field generated by one or more ultrasound transducers to organize large quantities of nanoparticles dispersed in a fluid medium into two-dimensional user-specified patterns. To accomplish this, we theoretically derive a direct method of calculating the ultrasound transducer parameters required to assemble a user-specified pattern of nanoparticles. The computation re...

Lithographically directed deposition of silica nanoparticles using spin coating

Directed self-assembly is an important direction for the extension of patterning to the nanoscale regime and below. Here, examples are given of both individual particle placement and composite structure formation involving assemblies of many nanometer scale particles, both on patterned surfaces and on planar surfaces where the photoresist is used as a sacrificial layer to define the pattern and...

Hybrid One-Dimensional Nanostructures: One-Pot Preparation of Nanoparticle Chains via Directed Self-Assembly of in Situ Synthesized Discrete Au Nanoparticles

The fabrication of well-defined one-dimensional (1D) arrays is becoming a challenge for the development of the next generation of advanced nanodevices. Herein, a simple concept is proposed for the in situ synthesis and self-assembly of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) into 1D arrays via a one-step process. The results demonstrated the formation of nanoparticle chains (NPC) with high aspect ratio base...

Magnetic field-induced self-assembly of iron oxide nanocubes.

Self-assembly of inorganic nanoparticles has been studied extensively for particles having different sizes and compositions. However, relatively little attention has been devoted to how the shape and surface chemistry of magnetic nanoparticles affects their self-assembly properties. Here, we undertook a combined experiment-theory study aimed at better understanding of the self-assembly of cubic...
